Solar DC Cable Scrap Buyer in Malaysia: Guide for Contractors

3 min read

Solar installation, maintenance and upgrade work can leave contractors with unused photovoltaic (PV) DC cable, short offcuts and surplus rolls. These materials may contain recoverable metal, so keeping them separate from general waste can make the next recycling enquiry easier. Anand Metals Recycling is a scrap wire buyer based in Klang, Selangor.

Which solar DC cables can contractors enquire about?

For an initial assessment, suppliers can describe the cable type and condition. Common examples include:

  • Unused solar DC cable left over after an installation.

  • Short insulated PV cable offcuts collected during wiring work.

  • Surplus reels or cable lengths from cancelled or revised jobs.

  • Removed cable from maintenance or replacement work, provided it is safely disconnected and the seller has authority to dispose of it.

  • Other copper or aluminium electrical cables, including AC cable, assessed separately where needed.

Not every cable has the same construction or recycling value. If the material is mixed, damaged, unusually contaminated or hard to identify, ask for an assessment rather than assuming it has a particular grade.

What affects a solar cable scrap quotation?

The amount a buyer can offer depends on the material actually present and the handling needed. Useful factors include the conductor material, cable dimensions, insulation, total quantity, cleanliness and current scrap market conditions. A clean, consistently sorted batch is easier to assess than several unidentified types combined together.

Copper content should not be estimated from the cable's outer diameter alone: different conductor sizes and insulation designs produce different overall weights. We do not quote a fixed public price here because rates and acceptance conditions can change. Request a current assessment for the actual batch.

How to prepare surplus PV cables before selling

  • Keep solar DC cable separate from unrelated electrical wire and general waste.

  • Separate clearly different types or sizes where practical. Keep any original cable markings or reel labels.

  • Photograph the cable, its markings, and the full quantity in one or more clear images.

  • Estimate the total weight or number and size of reels. State if the quantity is only an estimate.

  • Record where the material is stored and whether collection access is available for a van or lorry.

  • Only handle removed cables after a competent person has confirmed the electrical installation is safely isolated; never cut or strip live cable.

Do not burn cable insulation to recover metal. It creates hazards and can affect how the remaining material is handled. Keep the materials reasonably dry and secure while awaiting collection or delivery.

Can a contractor request collection for a bulk quantity?

Bulk pickup may be discussed, depending on the quantity, site location, loading arrangements and the buyer's confirmation. For smaller batches, ask about delivery to the Klang yard. Do not assume that collection or a particular purchase rate is guaranteed before the details are reviewed.

What to include in your enquiry

To avoid unnecessary back-and-forth, send the following information together:

  • Type of cable: solar PV DC, AC, or mixed electrical cables.

  • Available photos, markings and approximate conductor size if known.

  • Estimated weight or reel quantity and whether the cable is unused or removed.

  • Location of the material and preferred collection or delivery arrangement.

  • A contact number and the timeframe in which the material will be ready.

Frequently asked questions

Is every solar DC cable made from copper?

Many PV cable products use copper conductors, but cable construction varies. Check its markings or request an inspection before assigning a scrap grade.

Can I get a price from a photo?

Photos can help with an initial assessment. A confirmed purchase rate may still depend on weight, cable construction and inspection.

Do you also consider ordinary electrical cable scrap?

Anand Metals Recycling's existing scrap-wire buying service covers various copper and aluminium electrical wires. Describe each material type separately for a clearer quotation.
